Slumberland Helps Fight Breast Cancer With Its Pink Strategy
Slumberland has concluded their 2010 Pink strategy with the presentation of £7,775 to the Pink Ribbon Foundation (Reg. Charity No. 1080839), a grant making trust with a mission to fund projects and provide financial support to UK breast cancer charities.
Slumberland has spent much of 2010 working with the charity to raise funds with activities including the launch of a limited edition Pink Slumberland Bed with a contribution from each sale, a Pink Day in their Huntingdon factory where staff donated to wear pink and selling limited edition Pink T-shirts to staff. Additionally, instead of sending Christmas cards the company made an additional contribution to the charity.
Breast cancer is now the most common cancer worldwide and in the UK. Every week in the UK approximately 750 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer totalling over 41,000 new cases each year. For women, the lifetime risk of being diagnosed is about 1 in 9. It is believed that Britain now has the highest breast cancer mortality rate in the world and every week approximately 250 women in the UK die of Breast Cancer according to the Pink Ribbon Foundation.
