Slumberland gains FSC Certification
Leading Divan and Mattress manufacturer Slumberland have recently been awarded the quality standard issued by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC). The accolade recognises that their wood is sourced from forests that are managed in an environmentally responsible appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable manner.
The FSC recognition applies to the wood used in all divan units and the FSC system is unique and ensures that a forest is well-managed from the protection of indigenous people’s rights to the methods of felling trees.
Forests that meet these strict standards are given FSC certification and the products made from it allowed to carry the FSC label which an assurance that it is made with, or contains wood that only comes from FSC certified forests or from post-consumer waste.
Through a rigorous process forests are inspected and certified against strict standards based on FSC’s 10 Principles of Forest Stewardship. These inspections are undertaken by accredited independent organisations, including the Soil Association, that are accredited by the FSC.
In addition to forest certification, the FSC system includes a certified chain of custody that tracks the timber through every stage in the supply chain from the forest to the final user. This is monitored through the invoicing process and the final label on the product has a code that confirms that the item is genuinely FSC.
“We are delighted to have been given this prestigious award” commented Gordon Mitchell, Managing Director of Horatio Myer & Co Limited. “Winning the accreditation has required the business to strenuously examine all of our processes involving the use of wood. It is a worthwhile process and it shows our commitment to ethical manufacturing.”
“Our retailers and customers will see the FSC logo appearing on our products and communications alike. This endorses our commitment to use this scarce natural resource carefully”, concluded Gordon Mitchell.
