CARING FOR YOUR BED

Getting used to your bed

Your new bed may seem a little strange at first. The chances are that the springs and upholstery in your old bed were not what they used to be. Allow some time for your body to adjust to your new bed and for the fillings to settle.

Do not bend or fold the mattress

This is likely to damage the spring unit and may invalidate the guarantee.

Do not use chemical or detergent cleaners

In the event of soiling, the mattress may be lightly sponged with a weak solution of soap and water. Excessive wetting can damage the fabric.

Cleaning your mattress

We do not recommend vacuuming the mattress as this will lead to a disturbance of the fillings. Dust and fluff can we removed from the mattress by using a soft brush regularly.

Discolouration of your mattress

Discolouration may be caused by a chemical reaction that occurs during normal use. Chemicals are used in fire retardants and in the process of foam and latex production. If these chemicals come into contact with other chemicals such as detergents, deodrants or even perspiration, discolouration can occur. This is completely harmless and does not affect the performance of the mattress.

Do not overload drawers

Excessive weight can cause distortion or damage to the drawers. Over filling them may restrict free movement or cause them to jam. The weight inside the drawer must be spread evenly and must not exceed 7kg.

Turn the mattress regularly

Slumberland mattresses contain a variety of high quality filling layers. It is natural for these comfort layers to settle to the shape of your body, compacting in the same way as cushions on a sofa.

This is quite normal and should not be a cause for concern. Turning your mattress is the equivalent of plumping up your cushions. Mattresses should be turned every two weeks for the first six months and at monthly intervals thereafter.

Single sided mattresses need only rotating from head to foot.

Do not move the bed by the headboard

This may result in damage to the bed frame and headboard and therefore invalidate the guarantee.

Memory foam and Dunlopillo latex mattresses

These mattresses should be rotated from head to foot to even wear over the sleeping surface. Indentation of up to 20mm is completely normal for both memory foam and Dunlopillo latex. During use the cells in the foam will fully open resulting in the memory foam reacting more quickly. It may therefore feel as if the material is getting softer, however the pressure relieving properties remain the same.

Protect your mattress

No mattress is completely colourfast. We recommend you use a mattress protector to protect the mattress from accidental soiling from body moisture or other liquids. This also helps safeguard your guarantee.

Air the mattress regularly

In the morning turn back the bed clothes and leave the bed to air for 20 minutes to allow body moisture to evaporate. This helps prevent the possibility of body moisture reacting with fabric dyes.

Do not remove the fire label
Do not sit on the bed edge for long periods
Do not kneel on bed
Do not stand on bed

Mattress is too big/small for base

Mattresses can become compressed during storage and transit and should settle to the correct size within a couple of weeks.

Slumberland mattresses are manufactured to metric sizes. Please refer to the National Bed Federation website for information about bed sizes and tolerance.
